Basic Principles of a Low Fat Raw Vegan Diet
- Eat lots of raw fruits, veggies, and leafy greens.
- Choose organic, ripe, fresh, and local ingredients when possible.
- Reduce or eliminate oil, salt, animal products, and processed foods from your diet.
- Eat primarily raw food that has not been heated above 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Eat 80% carbs minimum, 10% fat maximum, and 10% protein maximum.
- When you eat overt fats (coconut, durian, and avocado) or nuts, do so in moderation to keep fat under 10% of your diet.
- Eat until satisfied. Do not restrict calories.
- Drink 3+ liters of pure water daily.
Tips for Success
- Try to increase your raw fruits and veggies, knowing that 100% raw is best. It is okay if you are not 100% raw, just do the best you can. Do not stress over it. Do not have guilt about it. Just eat lots of raw fruits and veggies and do your best.
- If you do eat cooked food, keep it low fat and vegan.
- If you have trouble getting in enough leafy greens, supplement with raw organic Barley Grass Juice Powder.
- It is okay to include frozen fruits and veggies as long as they are not blanched (cooked) before frozen.
- Make lots of fruit smoothies and enjoy fruit monomeals.
- When possible, do regular cardio, stretching, and weight lifting exercise.
Health and Beauty Tips
- Choose toiletries and beauty products with natural ingredients.
- Do not put products on your skin or in your mouth that are not safe to eat.
- Choose a toothpaste without fluoride, triclosan, glycerin, or other harmful ingredients. I recommend Earthpaste.
- Choose shampoos, bodysoap, and makeup with natural ingredients. I recommend the brand 100% Pure or Dr. Bonner.
- Avoid hand sanitizers and soap that include triclosan (a hormone disruptor). Choose thieves oil for hand sanitizer. Use hand soaps by 100% Pure, Kiss My Face, or other natural soap without triclosan.
- Sick? Try to avoid NSAIDs and antibiotics when possible, which are damaging to gut health and impair the immune system. Instead choose goldenseal tea as a natural antibiotic and Gaia brand liquid echinacea to boost the immune system.
- Choose a deodorant with no aluminum. I recommend Deodomom Roll-on Deodorant.

About the Author Hi! I am Sharon and I eat 80/10/10 low fat raw vegan. Eating this way has completely transformed my health and reversed my type 2 diabetes. I eat about 90% raw and 5-10% fat. I eat raw food because it contains the highest amount of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. I recommend low fat because a high fat diet impairs insulin function, raises cholesterol, and increases inflammation. I hope you enjoy these simple recipes and tips for a healthy lifestyle. I hope my recipes will inspire you to eat healthy and eat more fruits and veggies.
Before low fat raw vegan: I had severe type 2 diabetes, 6.7 A1C, PCOS cysts in my ovaries, unbalanced hormones, high testosterone, recurring strep throat, and seborrheic dermatitis. Now: Perfect blood sugar without medications, 4.9 A1C, all the cysts in my ovaries are gone, hormone levels including testosterone are optimal, no more strep and no more seborrheic dermatitis. Disclaimer: Raw vegan diets are not necessarily a cure all for every disease. However, if you eat more fruits and veggies, your overall health should improve. When you stop putting toxins into your body, it allows the body to heal on its own. I am not a doctor. Please work with your doctor if you want to make changes to your diet, especially if you are on medications. Long term vegans should consider supplementing with methylcobalamin. |
